The Wind Ensemble is an advanced band class, and students may earn weighted credit by enrolling in IB Music Appreciation.  The wind ensemble is selected from the results of the music standards testing.  Students in Wind Ensemble receive exercises and assignments that will allow them to increase their technical abilities and theoretical knowledge. A year in Wind Ensemble satisfies the Fine Arts graduation requirement, and students often take Wind Ensemble every year they are in high school.

Members of the Wind Ensemble also participate in the CBDA All State and the SCSBOA All Southern Band and Orchestra honor groups annually. Members also contribute to the wind sections of the La Primavera Orchestra and the Pacific Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Emphasis is placed on advanced instrumental technique, advanced musicianship, and development of advanced ensemble rehearsal skills. Literature is selected from advanced high school and college level music. Attendance at all performances, festivals and concerts is required. Private lessons are recommended for all members, and home practice is required.

AWARDS
The San Clemente Wind Ensemble has a long tradition of musical excellence, demonstrated though numerous years of superior rated SCSBOA festival performances.  The Wind Ensemble was awarded a unanimous superior rating at the CUSD Concert Festival in April 2006 and 2007.  Members of this class also performed in New York City, receiving a Gold Award and the "National High School Instrumental Music Department Sweepstakes" at the High School New York City Heritage Festival.

2007 WIND ENSEMBLE MEMBERS

Congratulations to the students selected to be in the Wind Ensemble. At this time, the Wind Ensemble meets 4th period each day. Students should double check their schedules in August to make sure they are enrolled in the correct class.  There are positions open for some instruments.  If a student scored above the minimum requirement but did not make the "cut", they may try one of the open instruments. See Mr. Jackson for details.
