Grading Deadline

The last day to check off proficiencies for grade credit is Thursday, June 12.  After that day, check offs will only count toward ensemble placement.

Students must check off a minimum of 30 proficiencies to be CONSIDERED for Chamber Orchestra or Wind Ensemble.  Students are admitted to to advanced music ensembles based on their MUSICIANSHIP score added to their PROFICIENCY score.

Check Out

School instrument must be checked in and cleaned by the student by June 17.  Students that still need a school instrument for the summer must return the CUSD Inventory Form by June 19. A pile of forms is available in the room.

Welcome Parents

Parents of Vista del Mar middle school 8th graders have been included in this week's e-mail list.  Further music news updates will continue and printed information will arrive home in two weeks.

Auditions This Week

Auditions for Pageantry (part of marching band) are on Wednesday and Thursday from 4-6 pm.  This is a great way to earn P.E. credit. The judge will be present on Thursday for final assessment.  Good luck girls!

CLASS ENROLLMENT

Class enrollment has not been smooth this year.  Mr. Jackson will be working with the counselors to re-enroll students that were accidentally dropped.  Read below for some clarifications:

  • MARCHING BAND P.E. IS 7TH PERIOD:  Several students were dropped because they were told it was 6th period.

  • COLLEGE CAREER AND PLANNING (CCP):  This class does NOT replace your music classes. Music students will be able to complete a waiver form, take it during Tutorial, or in the summer following your freshmen year.

  • IB MUSIC APPRECIATION: Students must enroll for band and/or orchestra first.  Students are put into the class after school begins. (Juniors and Seniors only)

  • CONCERT BAND / STRING ORCHESTRA:  Freshmen automatically begin in these classes unless they have checked off a minimum of 30 proficiencies and meet the musicianship score requirements to qualify (see above).  These two classes are THE NEXT STEP after middle school wind ensemble and advanced orchestra. Wind Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra are not the next step for a developing musician.

For additional information or questions, e-mail Mr. Jackson from this direct link:  |||Mr. Jackson|||
