Discussion of classroom procedures/policies for new semester

Pagentry is learning a new show. 2/3 of the way complete. Their first
competition is in March

Mr. Perez is doing Jazz Band
-
CUSD Honor Orchestra and Band will be starting in February.
-
NY Trip for orchestra will be March 22-27
-
Marching band instruments moving to storage and are being replaced with
Jazz instruments.
-
Fees: Many orchestra students owe fees. Mr. Jackson will likely send
out invoices to encourage payment of “Fair share” for items all
instrumental students use. Scholarships are available but requirements
must be met. Please check the website under “laws” for requirements.

Comment by Patti Fukushima asking for advertisement about competition
dates for Pageantry competitions to build camaraderie with all members
of the Triton Marching Alliance.

OLD BUSINESS

Gail Hangan has worked on Triton Cards. They
are ready for distribution this week. First 10 cards go toward general
fund, any other cards go toward individual student accounts.

Maria Wilson in charge of Valentine Brownie
Grams. On sale from February 5-13th. Deliveries on February
14th. BAKERS NEEDED! See email.

Orchestra will go to New York and perform at Carnegie Hall. They are
practicing two challenging pieces.

The marching band’s 2 highest scores will determine if the make the
Championships. One performance was missed because of the fires.
-
There will be 3 parades and a spring concert.

Parents welcome at all football games. Parents are needed to walk the band
out at 6:30pm. Orchestra parents are also welcome.

Field Shows are fun to watch, if you want to volunteer e-mail Sue
Mathiesen or just show up.

Grooming: Kids are doing fantastic. Seniors and juniors are helping the
lower classmen.

Kids wear white T-shirts, black shorts, black socks then uniform and shako
with a plumb
-
Young men’s hair must be under the shako off the collar. Shoes must be
shiny. Come watch and support the kids.
-
Band parent’s job is to help kids when they forget something or become
ill.

TMAC and its fund raisers support all instrumental music programs.
-
All the money goes to the kids so appreciate everyone’s participation.

The instrumental music program has a budget of $25,000. District support
is minimal.

Any fund raising ideas are appreciated.

There are two trips planned. Orchestra students are going to New York and
playing a Carnegie Hall. Band students are going to Montreal.
-
There will be a December concert which all groups will be participating.
We will sell refreshments as a fundraiser.

If
we get a volunteer we can have a silent auction at the spring concert.

Music Club.

We
need to orient parents of younger students to support the music program.
-
The marching band is competing in the 2a division, the music is
phenomenal, they are also judged on their appearance, pageantry and how
they all carry themselves. Possible performance in the SCSBOA
Championships Dec 1. Get involved just like football.

Mr. Jackson didn’t raise fees this year; choose to supplement this with
fund raisers which also provide scholarships.
Fund raisers support all music and provides for extra coaches,
instructors, music, instruments and transportation.
Sees Candy Sale: all money goes to individual student accounts, due Monday
after Thanksgiving.

Golf Tournament is March 10. 60% sold out, need more hole sponsors, $1000
per hole but can put more than one name on a hole. The goal is to make
$8,000 in hole sponsors. Entry form for tournament was sent to all
families, will be posted on Web site

We
will sell Triton Discount Cards again, Gail Hangan to lead project. Cards
sell for $10. Last year this raised 10,000.
Jog-a-thon letters almost all back. The letters returned with donations
will be given back to the students. When they are it will be posted on the
web site.

We
will sell food at the Jazz competition and clinic.

Thank you for the donations and picking up the food.

Chili cook off went well was lots of fun.

We
will sell water at graduation. Freshman parents are encouraged to
volunteer. We made $1000 last year.
We will be asking for baked goods the night of the winter concert.

There is lots of work and new parents are welcome to help wherever
possible.

First field show went well. We’ll do even better next time.

No previous minutes or old business, Treasurer absent.

Requests Treasure’s report and a goal for fund raising.

Golf Tournament postponed till early March, 3rd of 10th. We need more
foursomes and hole sponsors. Deposit $2,020. 2 prizes and donations have
been collected.

Other possible fund raisers suggested by the President, Yamaha candy sale
and Bagpipe concert.
Director's Report: Pete Jackson

Concert band and Wind Ensemble are working on sight reading, pep music,
field show and winter concert.
Orchestras are working on new pieces every day.

Jazz Band workshop is Friday at tutorial for extra credit.
-
Marching Band and Pageantry performing at football games. They had their
first judged field show. The comments where very productive. It was good
for the first time out. Uniforms will arrive next week. Tutorial is from
5-6 Tuesday, extra credit can be earned. Pictures will be put off till
January. A similar picture will be staged for the year book.

The New York trip was scheduled around the performance at Carnegie Hall.
It is after college application deadlines and well before advanced
placement exams.
Alternate trip proposal: Lisa Cabodi

Two destinations were researched, Montreal and Philadelphia. Tour Company
would take care of everything and the trip would be planned for Spring
Break.

Cost of the trip would be about $1400 for 4 days and 3 nights.
-
The decisions on travel are the Directors.
Band Mom’s Report: Patti Waller

Many seniors graduation from the band last year. The kids are stepping up
and helping the new members. The goal is for the students to take more
responsibility for getting themselves ready for their performances.

The students are to wear white t-shirts and dark shorts under their
uniforms so they can get dressed quickly on the buses.
-
Volunteers are needed at the home games and competition. Dads are needed
for the pit and to walk in with the band.
-
Senior night is Nov. 2. All seniors will receive a corsage and have their
picture taken. Everyone is invited.

We are still sending out Jog-a-thon forms.

Chili Cook off is before the game with Mission Viejo. Come early just for
fun.

Jan Eckel had been doing a good job with the Band Stand covers.
