HISTORY

The marching band was first formed in 1965 by Mr. Joseph Shofner, a primarily a language teacher at San

Clemente HS.  Legend says that Mr. Shofner was in the teacher's lounge one day and asked why such an up to date school didn't have a marching band.  Because of some previous marching band experience, he was assigned the dubious task of forming, training, and preparing a marching band for performances.

As marching band started to perform, the first drum major chosen was John Iverson.  Mr. Iverson tells us that he was picked for the position simply because he was tall.  The band also worked to raise funds for uniforms, and each member purchased their own uniforms. In the first year of existence, the marching band performed in several parades.

You can read Mr. Iverson's accounting of the marching band and Mr. Shofner on the Alumni "Memories" page.  |Read John Iverson's Memories|

CURRENT PROGRAM

The Triton Marching Alliance has a distinguished history of parade competition going back as far as 1965 and into the 80's.  The present band is primarily a field band, which travels to five competitions each fall, numerous

football games, local parades, and the SCSBOA Marching Band Championships. The band has qualified for championships six times in seven years, and has won the SCSBOA Marching Band Championship bronze medal twice.

The Triton Marching Alliance is made up of students from the Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and the Dance Pageantry.  Orchestra members often participate as part of the percussion front ensemble, or as members of the Dance Pageantry.  The Dance Pageantry unit is a modern color guard that focuses on dance technique, and  prop and equipment handling.

Being part of the Triton Marching Alliance means that you are also part of the school spirit and image.  Members perform at football games, travel to away games with the team, and perform at rallies and assemblies starting in August.
