GRADING PROCEDURE
A grade is earned through completion of tasks divided between four
components:
40%
Performance – This is a performance based class, and attendance at
performances is mandatory. Students lose 10% of their final grade
after their first absence, and 15% for the second performance absence, and
another 15% for the third. There is
no makeup possible for these absences (see the attendance
policy)
20% Proficiencies – Wind, percussion, and string players submit music
proficiency assignments by computer, and other tests/quizzes are given
periodically.
20% Daily Class Requirements – Requirements include, but are not limited to, arriving on
time, attending class, having your
materials readily available in class, making a daily contribution to the
ensemble, ensemble team behavior, etc.
20% Assignments – This category includes requirements of
participation, such as paperwork returned in a timely manner, concert rubrics,
attire/uniforms, etc. This category is also used for posting theory
assignments, note pages, compositions, portfolios, etc.
ATTENDANCE
New material is presented every day (5 points per day), and excellent
attendance will assure success. Students with frequent tardiness or
absences will miss instruction, and it is the responsibility of the student to
turn in makeup work in a timely manner. Late work loses a letter grade
each day it is late.
HOMEWORK
Students are required to learn their music thoroughly. Homework
includes regular practice, which is the remediation and review of concepts and
information presented in class. Homework may also include written
assignments, compositions, work packets, etc.
