MAKE UP ASSIGNMENT
DISCLAIMER: This assignment in no way replaces your presence at a performance. All performances count toward your grade. If you were absent for a performance, here is an opportunity to make up partial credit (80%). MAKE UP WORK FOR A PERFORMANCE IS NOT PART OF THE MUSIC PERFORMANCE CURRICULUM, AND STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THIS ASSIGNMENT INDEPENDENT OF CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE STUDENT FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS BELOW TO EARN THE GRADE FOR THE PERFORMANCE. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.
ABSENCES
EXCUSED ABSENCES are credited if you gave us written notice at least two weeks PRIOR to the event or if you were absent from school multiple days due to illness.
UNEXCUSED ABSENCES are credited if you notified us without a note from your parents (or phone call, e-mail, etc.), or your note was LATE (less than two weeks prior to the performance).
A MISSED PERFORMANCE without any written notice is inexcusable (don’t bother writing the report - there is no way to make up your grade). Your performance is unexcused.
JUDGED PERFORMANCES cannot be made up. Your performance is unexcused.
PAPER REQUIREMENTS
Excused Absence Report Requirements:
Highlight and print the contract below and turn it into the director.
700 words minimum (not including the title pages or bibliography).
Word count must be at the end of the report.
Typed 10 point font TIMES NEW ROMAN or ARIAL, double-spaced
TOPIC: History of the instrument you play, and a paragraph about how playing music has affected your life (if you would like to write about a different topic in music, you must clear it with a director first)
Turned in to Mr. Jackson before the missed performance. Standard grading policy applies (i.e. 10% is deducted per day late).
All sources must be correctly cited in MLA format a bibliography
You must upload the text of your report to www.TurnItIn.com (see instructions below)

TOPIC: The physics of your instrument. (i.e. how it works, makes sound, the tuning characteristics, its instrument family, comparisons to other instruments in the family, etc.)

POSTING IN PROGRESS
1. The first step is to go to the website http://www.turnitin.com
2. Select the NEW USER link in the top right hand corner
3. Select the type of user you are ("Student") by clicking the downward arrow.
4. Enter class I.D.# ( 2255075 ) and enrollment password ( tritons ) and click next.
5. Enter your e-mail address and click NEXT.
6. Create your own personal password (6-12 characters long using at least one letter and one number) WRITE THIS PASSWORD DOWN AND DON'T FORGET IT!!! Save it, then click next.
7. Select a secret question, then type in the answer. Click NEXT.
8. To create a user profile enter your first name, then your last name in the yellow spaces.
9. Click I AGREE - CREATE USER PROFILE
10. Select END WIZARD AND LOGIN.
11. Click on the class you wish to submit a paper for: "Make Up Assignment" class
12. Next to the assignment is an icon (picture) of a piece of paper with an arrow pointing up. Click on this to SUBMIT PAPER icon for the assignment.
13. You may submit your paper by "file upload", or "cut and paste". Select the one you prefer to use to submit your paper. Then click SUBMIT.
14. You will be given a paper ID# which you have to write down.
15. Log out.
