Rock
“A form of popular music arising from and incorporating a variety of
musical styles, especially rhythm and blues, country music, and gospel.
Originating in the United States in the 1950s, it is characterized by
electronically amplified structure”( Peneny). It combined all the great
American music and created a type of music all its own. It was named
“rock-and-roll” first by a Cleveland disc jockey, who took it from a song
called “My Baby Rocks Me with a Steady Roll”. However the Rock and Roll to
Britain were it flourished first with the well known groups as the
Beatles, Rod Stewart, and Van Morrison.
Classical
The classical movement came from the time of the Napoleonic Wars and the
French Revolution, which were two events that dramatically changed the
face of Europe. Also during this period, more time became leisure time,
which allowed the public the enjoy music. This lead to the disappearance
of the Baroque system of patronage. The music began to become more
simplistic, unlike the sudden changes in styles and trills that were
present in the Baroque period.
