Star Wars main theme song:
Written by John Williams and played by The Boston Pops, the main theme to
Star Wars is well known throughout the country. “What emerged was a lush,
timeless sound that defied the baser inclinations of the disco era”. With
its 20th century style, the full symphony orchestrated Boston Pops
orchestra performed this song and was conducted by John Williams himself
in a 4/4 time signature. Star Wars is played as a march-like piece with
the fanfare in the beginning then carried on by the brass. The brass
carries on the march with their accented notes to create a rhythm and
precision for the song and creates a militaristic feel. The melody of the
song differs from section to section. It actually tells the story of the
movie without having to watch it. In the beginning, a fanfare carried by
the brass is set to create the intense starting of the journey for Luke
Skywalker, which is then followed by a ritardando to create a larger
influence. After the fanfare the upper brass continues to carry the
melody, while the lower brass takes over the harmony. These voices change
though when the second half of the melody is played. They are switched and
the lower brass begins to take on the melody while the upper brass
decrescendo a bit to take harmony. When the first melody is over, piccolo
continues with a solo and all of the voices become piano to set a calming
mood for the audience after the fortissimo sound of the brass. Still
